Here is today's The Math Contest question of the day.


This was easy but I wrote everything down rather than keep track in my head.  Wanted a fast time but did not want to take a chance at the penalty box on an easy peazy.  Rollins running away with the month and we are only 3 days in.

Today's song was suggested by my gradeschool buddy, Jovo.  He texted me the video which I will use and I will also give you the official video.  The song came out in 81 by this UK punk band.  It was on their fourth album, Sandinista!  It is Neil and Buccee's favourite band.  The song was inspired by Grandmaster Flash and also the Sugarhill Gang.  The music so impressed Mick Jones it is said he was caught carrying around one of those big ghetto boxes that we had back in the early 80s.   Been over 20 years now.  I used to have a CJAM bumper sticker on my front dashboard that had one of punks most iconic pictures on it.  It was of the band's bassist Paul Simonon slamming his instrument on stage.  Ok you have to know the band's name now.  This "white rap" song beat out Blondie and her rapture by a few months.  Joe Strummer wrote the words on the spot as they were in studio.  RIP. Can't believe it has been over 20 years.    The band is The Clash and the song is The Magnificent Seven.  Maybe the Sandinista's will put put-in in the meat grinder.

Here is today's The Math Contest question of the day.
I answered first but ended up in the penalty box as I plugged into the summation formula and my calculator gave me the wrong answer.  I should of just done term 1 squared as I already had term 1.  Oh well.

Today's song is from 80 from this UK band's fourth album, Sandinista!  The song was written by Joe Strummer as he was asked to write a heavy song for Al Pacino's movie Cruising.  Joe on his way home saw a dead body in a pool of blood.  Bingo idea for the song.  Mick wrote the tune the next day and boom done.  The song was not used in the movie.  The band was The Clash and the song is Somebody Got Murdered.  Somebody should do that to put-in.  Below is the studio version and a live version from Cali in 83.

Dang I knew how to do this too.  I made a simple mistake in my second last line.  One hour penalty box on Monday.  Worse is that I have a track meet Tuesday - Thursday and will try and do them on my phone but good luck with that during a track meet.

Today's song is from an English group from 78.  It was on their second album, Give 'Em Enough Rope.  It was the last song on the album.  On US releases the song was called That's No Way To Spend Your Youth but nobody would ever call it that.  The band is The Clash and the song is All The Young Punks.  It's is funny that if  you were 13 when the song came out you are now 58.  You are not a young punk anymore.  I also picked that age as I was 13 when this album came out.  Still a punk, just not a young one.  RIP Joe.

Today's song comes from one of my favourite bands.  It is off this English band's debut eponymous album.  The band was self billed as "The Only Band That Mattered".  The intro to the song is a variation of The Sex Pistol's song Pretty Vacant.  It is the third song on the album.  The band is The Clash and the song is I'm So Bored With The U.S.A.  RIP Joe Strummer.  I can't believe it has almost been 20 years since your passing.    I am so bored with put-in.  Studio version first then a live version.
