Today's song comes from 1982 from an English/American band.  It is the second single off their eponymous debut album.  The four members of the band came from 70s punk bands: The Damned, The Dead Boys, Sham 69 and The Barracudas.  In 85 said band did a cover of Madonna's Like A Virgin.    The song was covered by none other than David Hasselhoff. Yes that David Hasselhoff.  Ok the band is The Lords Of The New Church and the song is Open Your Eyes.  RIP Stiv.  Just updated as I forgot fuck putin.

 With the war in Ukraine I thought the title of the song was apropos.  I also like the song and the band.  The song is from 86 and the band is from England and has a three letter name and it is not OMD (Orchestral Maneuvers in the Dark).  The song is from an agnostic writing a letter to God.  The song was somewhat controversial.  In Flo Rida a radio station received bomb threats for playing the song and in NY a HS student held a teacher at knife point to have the song played over the PA.  Funny all the fuss was in the US and A.  Andy Partridge wrote the song.  Ok it is XTC and the song is Dear God.

Happy May Day.  Today is usually a big  worker and trade union day in Europe.  So today's song of the day will be their honour.  I saw this English singer over at St. Andrew's in Detroit back in 83-84.  I was standing on the floor with my girlfriend at the time and the singer whose birth name is Stephen stood next to me.  I introduce myself to him and he said to keep it on the qt as he did not want people to know who he was as most the kids in the audience would not recognize him from a hole in the ground.  Best part of the show is when he flipped his guitar around and he had a bumper sticker on it that said "Like Bush".  Remember who was running for or was President at the time.  It took a bit for the kids from the burbs to get it and they didn't know whether to shit or wind their watch.  Ok.  Hints.  Both his initials are the same.  His albums include Talking With The Taxman About Poetry, Workers Playtime, Life's A Riot With Spy Vs. Spy.  The song I picked is off that last album from 83 and is probably better known from the cover from 85 by Kristy MacColl.  The first two lines of the song are copied from Paul Simon.   "I was 21 years when I wrote this song/I'm 22 now, but I won't be for long".  The artist is Billy Bragg or better known as the Cuddly Communist and the song is A New England.  Oh yeah before I forget, fuck the russian rapists, russian nazis and fuck putin.

For today's song my first hint is what day is today?  This song comes from 1980 but I think of the band from late 70s.  I have posted about them before as I saw them in Windsor when I was a kid.   The band is Canadian.   The song came from the album Harder...Faster.  The last verse of the song has guitar riffs from the Beatles Day Tripper and The Stones Can't Get No.  That is enough hints.  The song is I Like To Rock and the band is April Wine.  Almost forgot.  FUCK pUTIN.  FUCK trump.  FUCK tED cRuZ.
